CBD can be administered in many forms. Among the most popular methods—especially for individuals trying a cannabis-based treatment for the first time—is through a cannabidiol CBD tincture.

Typically a CBD Tincture (including GreenThumb Naturals tinctures) is produced by blending CBD isolate with MCT (coconut oil) over low heat for a significant span of time. This allows the active cannabis compounds to infuse into the MCT and form a high-impact oil that delivers the effects of the cannabinoid molecules without any smoking or other form of combustion.

Full Spectrum VS Raw

Full spectrum CBD, as hemp oil, contains every cannabinoid present in the cannabis plant. This means cannabidiol (CBD), cannabicyclol (CBC), and cannabigerol (CBG). In full spectrum CBD oil, there is nothing held back or left out.

Some full spectrum tinctures also contains trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is because nothing is removed from the cannabis plant. Still, it is CBD oil so the focus is not on the THC content.

Remember that industrial hemp products are regulated (and legal) at < 0.3% THC concentration. This amount will not cause psychoactive effects, and is legal to sell and consume in all 50 states.

Chemists create full spectrum CBD oil by extracting the whole source of the plant and distilling it down into oil. This brings all of the other properties and molecules along with it.

Different cannabinoids introduce various potential benefits that can address a wide variety of ailments, both on their own and in conjunction with CBD.

Since it comes from a industrial hemp plants that are very low in THC, that means the full spectrum CBD tincture will also contain just a very minimal amount of THC. Full Spectrum vs Raw tincture is an easy choice for many people as long as they are okay with minimal THC exposure.

CO2 Winterization Technique

Our Full Spectrum tincture utilizes the CO2 winterization method of extraction. In short, CO2 winterizing consists of soaking the industrial hemp plant in ethanol, heating it, and then freezing it.
This helps to separate the CBD and cannabinoids from all other residual products, such as waxes, fats, and chlorophyll that is natural to the plant.

The winterization technique creates a much more potent byproduct. Winterizing CBD oil also contains fewer terpenes and everything else other than pure CBD cannabinoids.

Raw Tincture

Raw Tincture is pure CBD, separated from any and all other cannabis compounds, and then infused into MCT (coconut oil).
The CBD is isolated by cooling extracted hemp oil until it forms into crystals. These crystals are processed into a highly pure powder. This powder is pure CBD as a molecular compound.

This method provides you with the benefits of CBD alone. It does not take advantage of any of the rest of the materials and chemicals that are present alongside CBD in the cannabis plant.

To some people, this may be what they prefer. However, others believe that it does not use the cannabis plant to its full potential!

How to Take a Tincture

Because a CBD tincture is concentrated, it’s designed to be taken in small doses. Consequently, many brands such as GreenThumb Naturals tinctures come with a built-in dropper that allows users to take small, carefully measured quantities.

Since the doses are relatively small, tinctures can be administered in a variety of ways. For patients looking to take their CBD with food, a dose of tincture can be mixed into liquid-based food items such as soups.

It can also be added easily to drinks like coffee and tea; an evening cup of chamomile paired with CBD tincture stands to be even more relaxing than usual.

Tinctures can also be taken sublingually, or by applying them underneath the tongue. This method of delivering CBD tincture is already common in epilepsy treatments.

Some research has found that this delivery method makes cannabinoids more easily and consistently available to the body than other oral alternatives.
