What is CBD?

CBD is a natural-occurring extract from high-CBD, low-THC hemp. Medical marijuana products are usually made from plants with high concentrations of psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). In contrast, hemp contains only trace amounts of THC, and these CBD hemp oil products are non-psychoactive.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of over 85 cannabinoids presently identified in the cannabis plant and is the second most abundant cannabinoid in marijuana after THC. In hemp, however, THC is only present in trace amounts, while CBD dominates the plant’s makeup. CBD interacts with our naturally occurring systems, but is non-psychotropic. In other words, it doesn’t cause a “high.” This makes it a safer, less controversial alternative, while still offering significant health benefits.

What are the benefits of CBD?

CBD interacts with the body through the endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) or endocannabinoid system. First discovered in the late 1980’s, the endocannabinoid system regulates the body’s homeostasis, or general state of balance, impacting such functions as mood, sleep, appetite, hormone regulation, and pain and immune response. Like an acrobat on a high wire, as the environment around us impacts our normal balance, the endocannabinoid system “corrects” by mediating our body’s reaction to keep us level.
While its effects will be slightly different from person to person, many individuals taking CBD have reported that they commonly experience benefits including pain relief, increased focus, emotional stability, and reduced stress.

Are Hemp Oil and CBD the same thing?

CBD oil is significantly different than the hemp seeds or organic hemp oil you commonly find in grocery stores. Derived only from hemp seeds, hemp seed oil is a great nutritional supplement, containing many vitamins and minerals and other healthy constituents, but it does not contain cannabidiol (CBD) and therefore does not pack the same punch.

Can I get high by taking CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two most prominent cannabinoids found in Cannabis, the plant genus that includes both hemp and marijuana. While there are over 100 different cannabinoids so far identified in cannabis by scientists, CBD and THC are by far the most extensively studied and best understood.
One of the key differences between CBD and THC is whether the cannabinoid will cause a euphoric psychoactive effect, or “high,” when consumed. THC does, but CBD does not elicit a high feeling. The naturally low-THC hemp plant is a non-psychoactive of cannabis. You get the amazing health benefits of CBD without the “high” of THC marijuana.

Are there side effects of taking CBD?

CBD is thought to be well-tolerated and safe for human consumption. According to WebMD, “CBD doses of up to 300 mg daily have been used safely for up to 6 months. Higher doses of 1200-1500 mg daily have been used safely for up to 4 weeks.” There have been some reports of dry mouth, low blood pressure, lightheadedness, and drowsiness, the health information site reports.
CBD is considered to be safe and non-toxic for humans and even some pets to take, even at high amounts. A research paper titled Safety and side effects of cannabidiol explores this subject.

Is CBD legal to use in my state?

If we’re talking about hemp-derived CBD, then the answer is yes. Now, the keyword here is “hemp-derived.” Because CBD from hemp has no psychoactive effects, the purchase, sales, or possession of hemp CBD products should be completely legal in all 50 States, some states have opted to either ban or make requirements such as medical recommendations from a Doctor to consume CBD. Because hemp is sometimes confused with the marijuana plant, there is still some stigma towards hemp-derived CBD, but from a legal perspective, hemp-derived CBD is completely legal and enjoys the rights of any other legal product.
All Greenthumb Naturals products are derived from the highest quality industrial hemp sustainably grown by our Colorado USA farmers.

Will CBD cause me to fail a drug test?

Unfortunately, we can’t make hard guarantees that our products will not show up on a drug test. There are just too many variables at play beyond our control including body chemistry, specific testing processes used, etc. At the end of the day, CBD is a product derived from the cannabis family of plants, specifically cannabis sativa-L also known as the hemp plant.
As a hemp derived product, the majority of our CBD contains zero THC. Our Full Spectrum Tincture contains lab-certified levels of THC under the .3% legal limit.

We can say that to our knowledge we’ve never had anyone fail a drug test due to the use of any of our products.

We’ve heard of some customers trying a short regimen of CBD at an interval known to not interfere with regular drug screening, and then ordering a private drug screening at a clinic to examine the results.
In summary, the only hard recommendation we can make is to either not consume any CBD products, or to do further research at ProjectCBD.org before making the decision to consume CBD.
